Think@big
Out with the New, In with the Old
Berkeley innovation group | fall 2017
In the Fall 2017 semester, my professor invited me to join his innovation strategy firm, Berkeley Innovation Group, as part of its think@big cohort. I worked with 3 MBA students: Arthur Tong, Derrick Mosley, and Josh Senick. We were mentored by my professor/the CEO, Clark Kellogg, as well as innovation strategist, Shannon Herline. Using human-centered design practices, my team and I spent a semester analyzing an industry that millennials were blamed for killing.
The Problem
How are millennials ruining golf? People assume that better golf clubs result in a better game because pro-golfers are endorsed by top quality clubs.
Research
How might we utilize old golf clubs to show that skill translates regardless of the club?
Solution
Host a golf tournament where the players can only use old golf clubs. By using old golf clubs, we can either prove or disprove that regardless of the club, skills and muscle memory can translate into whatever equipment used.
